Please, vote NO on HB878 on Feb. 21 in the Children and Family Affairs Subcommittee.
Clergy can already refuse to solemnize the marriage of any couple. Those public officials in Tennessee who can solemnize marriages should not turn people away based on their beliefs.
This bill opens the door to public officials refusing to solemnize the marriages of couples of different racial and ethnic backgrounds, couples of different religions or of no religious beliefs, couples based on prior marital status, and same-sex couples.
The mission of public officials is to serve the whole public without picking and choosing.
