Please, vote NO on HB306 and HB727 in House Education Administration Committee on April 12.
HB306 uses the TSSAA to require private schools to discriminate against transgender student athletes in league play. This bill is yet another instance of stigmatizing transgender youth, even those who don't participate in team sports. It sets a horrible precedent for using the TSSAA to regulate private schools. What else will it lead to? And now Rep. Bulso is using the bill as a vehicle to expand armed school resource officers in private schools. This is sloppy lawmaking and you should reject this bill for all these reasons.
HB727 results in busywork for students, parents, teachers, and administrators by requiring all these opt-ins. This bill is not designed to solve an educational problem. It is designed to suppress discussion of real issues in the curriculum, surveys, and school clubs. This committee needs to focus on supporting our schools, not on micromanaging every aspect of the school day.
