Please, vote NO on SB1443 and SB1237 on the Senate floor on April 13.
SB1443: All these opt-ins are busywork for students, parents, teachers, and administrators. This bill is meant to micromanage viewpoints at school and create fear about having real discussion of issues. It is also designed to suppress school clubs. There is no evidence that the curriculum, surveys, or clubs themselves are a problem. Please, get the Legislature focused on supporting education instead of trying to control every moment of the school day.
SB1237: This bill uses the TSSAA to require private schools to discriminate against transgender student athletes in league play. This bill is yet another instance of stigmatizing transgender youth, even those who don't participate in team sports. It sets a horrible precedent for using the TSSAA to regulate private schools. What else will it lead to? And now it is being used as a vehicle to put armed school resource officers in private schools. This is sloppy lawmaking and you should reject this bill for all these reasons.
