Restore the Assembly in the north of Ireland
First Minister Elect Michelle O'Neill - The people want the Assembly back up and running
[Your Elected Official]

Twenty-five years ago the people across Ireland voted for the Good Friday Agreement. Today one party that represents a minority, the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), has blocked the operation of the Agreement. This means that the people of the North of Ireland do not have a government that can handle day-to-day concerns, craft needed legislation, or work to create solutions for the people. It means that much needed cross border cooperation and work have been stalled.

The Democratic Unionist Party, initially claimed that their action was an attempt to influence trade negotiations between the British Government and the European Union. Those negotiations concluded 3 months ago with both parties agreeing to a joint resolution known as The Windsor Framework.

In the elections in May 2023, the people in the North of Ireland overwhelmingly voted for parties that support the Good Friday Agreement and believe the institutions should be set up immediately.

The DUP continues to block the operation of the Good Friday Agreement against the will of the people.

The British Government has failed to honor all its obligations, has acted unilaterally to rewrite agreements, and threaten to break international law.

The British Government is now seeking to negotiate a trade agreement with the United States. I am asking you to insist that the British Government honors its commitments and legal obligations and work in partnership with the Irish Government to progress the implementation of all agreements, and work to restore the democratically elected Assembly.

I ask you to sign on to House Resolutions 33 and 43 or to the recent Senate Resolution by Senators Menendez and Collins, “Commemorating the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Good Friday Agreement.”

The Good Friday Agreement is an American Foreign policy success. It has delivered peace and progress in Ireland for twenty-five years. With your support it will do so for the next twenty-five years.

Sincerely,
