<p>As your constituent, I am asking you to use the new year as an opportunity to refocus the Legislature on the priorities of all the Tennesseans you represent.</p> <p>If you ask the people in your district what their top 5 priorities are, the vast majority would not include legislation attacking LGBTQ people. Yet Tennessee is a leading state for discriminatory legislation. That misplaced focus not only harms individuals and families, but it takes valuable time and energy from other issues that need addressing.</p> <p>The challenges that Tennessee faces will require the gifts, work, energy, and commitment of all of us. Legislation that stigmatizes groups increases our problems and distracts us from finding the solutions we need.</p> <p>Thank you for considering my views.</p>
