Dear %TITLE% %LAST%,
Please, vote NO on SB596 and SB620 in Senate Judiciary Committee on January 9.
I don't support any bill like SB596 that would allow public officials to turn members of the public away. Clergy can already refuse to perform weddings. Public officials are supposed to serve everyone. Passing this law will result in discrimination and costly litigation.
With SB620, I worry that it will make school officials and healthcare professionals reluctant to help children and youth in dire need of assistance. This bill of absolutes reinforces a system where children and youth are alone, void of autonomy for 17 years, while the adults who yearn to help and who are also trained professionals cannot because of the real and perceived threats to their livelihood. This is a furtherance of Big Government overreach that burdens schools and teachers, nurtures a culture of fear in kids and caregiving professionals, and allocates imbalanced powers to an element with an extreme parenting philosophy who have no business dictating the education or parenting of other children.
Thank you for considering my views.
