I am reaching out as a concerned New Hampshire citizen to ask you to oppose HB 1569 -eliminating voter identification exceptions. This voter suppression law could cost any voter - from either party - their right to register and vote in an election. 
Currently, when registering to vote, voters are asked for proof of identity, age, domicile, and citizenship. If they are registering and lack documentation for age, domicile, and citizenship, they are able to sign an affidavit, then register and cast a ballot. These affidavits are a powerful legal document with serious consequences that have been shown to be safe and secure time and again.  HB 1569 would require documents be provided every time someone registers to vote – even if they are updating their registration with a new address, or had been removed from the rolls because they did not vote for multiple elections. 
Voters who lost their documents in fires or natural disasters prior to an election would be unfairly barred from voting. It could also impact any voter who is unknowingly removed from the voter roles, and therefore doesn’t bring all of their documents with them to vote.
Voters should not have their right to vote ripped away because they were removed from the voter rolls inadvertently or through a purge of the voter rolls and came to the polls without required documents. This bill is extreme, going so far as to remove the only fail safe process Granite Staters have to ensure their right to vote if they don’t have or forgot documents to register.
Please take a stand for voters' rights and oppose HB 1569.
