<p>Please, vote NO on HB1634 in the K-12 Subcommittee on March 5.</p> <p>Bullying rates for LGBTQ students are higher than the rate for their peers. We should be doing more to prevent bullying and discrimination, not going in the opposite direction. Policy sends a signal to administrators, teachers, and students about what is important. To remove policies that protect students is a dangerous step backwards.</p> <p>It is also a misleading signal for our schools. The U.S. Department of Education on June 16, 2021 made it clear that they view Title IX as protecting students from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity and they will enforce it accordingly. We should not put our schools in a bind between federal and state requirements.</p> <p>Thank you for considering my views.</p>
