The 2021 expansion of the CTC was an important tool for reducing child poverty (https://www.census.gov/library/stories/2022/09/record-drop-in-child-poverty.html) and helping parents make ends meet. The proposed expansion recently passed by the House of Representatives in the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act (H.R. 7024) is nowhere near the level of the 2021 expansion, but we think it is an important step in the right direction.
The Senate must vote soon on this bill that will have a huge impact (https://www.cbpp.org/research/federal-tax/about-16-million-children-in-low-income-families-would-gain-in-first-year-of). Approximately 80,000 children in Nebraska would benefit from this proposed expansion. Tell your US Senators to act quickly and pass the Child Tax Credit expansion so families can receive the benefits on their taxes as soon as possible.
Please edit the email template to the right and let Nebraska Senators Pete Ricketts and Deb Fischer know how the Child Tax Credit has impacted your family or the difference it could make for Nebraskans. For example - if your family received the expanded Child Tax Credit in 2021, with monthly payments, what was that like for you? What did you spend it on? Child care, rent/mortgage payments, food, a little something extra for your family?
A few examples of how this expansion would impact Nebraska families:

A single parent with two children, whose income is $15,000, would receive $3,750 under the proposed CTC. Under current law, this family would only receive $1,875.

A married couple with three children, whose income is $32,000, would receive $6,000 under the proposed CTC. Under current law, this family would only receive $4,425.

A married couple with two children, whose income is $75,000, would receive $4,000 under the proposed CTC (no change from the current law).
