<p>SB2781/HB1949 is on notice in Senate Judiciary and House Criminal Justice Subcommittee on March 26. When the bill comes before you for a vote, please, vote NO.</p> <p>This bill has been changed a couple of times with significant changes in the most recent amendment, which led it being referred back to the House Subcommittee.</p> <p>This bill is a massive example of government overreach that will result in false accusations and discrimination. The bill obviously targets transgender people and attempts to make it impossible to use restrooms and changing rooms without fear, but it could ensnare many others in its net because it penalizes going into bathrooms. It would also create a nightmare for businesses, congregations, and organizations to comply.</p> <p>In fact, the bill would put employers in a bind between federal law, which protects transgender employees, and state law. It will also increase liability for businesses and nonprofit organizations and result in confusion. Please, ask hard questions about how large and small businesses and organizations are supposed to implement it and whether it is going to enforced in arbitrary ways. Please, also ask what is the demonstrated need for the bill.</p> <p>Thank you for considering my views.</p>
