Tell Walmart and Produce Company NO to Apeel Preservative!
Dear Houweling and Walmart executives,

Please don’t proceed with coating English cucumbers with the Apeel preservative, as announced in the media.

While I’m sure the plastic wrapper is something Houweling would love to eliminate--we don’t want to eat preservatives on our food.

At least we can throw the plastic wrapper away, rather than eat it.

Last year, many of us wrote Apeel about their product that is not “just plants protecting plants,” as the marketing goes--and were told the product does not wash off.

While in 2024, they’re telling some people they CAN wash it off. But the product is a coating, and we don’t want it for us or our families.

Please read Apeel’s FDA filing, where you will learn of two petrochemical solvents and five heavy metals involved in the manufacture of the product.

While there may be some plant remains somewhere in the product, it’s trans-fat monoglycerides and diglycerides that make up the base, and an unknown-to-the-public proprietary blend of possibly other chemicals or synthetics.

We don’t know, because Apeel won’t say. But we have no information about the toxicity of the product, besides that we know how harmful the solvents and metals are, which you can easily discover as well.

Please don’t put it on the cucumbers. We’d love to hear from you if you change your mind, so we don’t have to shop elsewhere.

Thank you,
