Protect Children from Obscenity in NC Schools Petition
Goal: 1000

Parents are responsible for their children, first and foremost. Whether it is overseeing their medical health, or safeguarding their education, parents have rights to oversee the upbringing of those they brought into being. The General Assembly’s passage of the Parents Bill of Rights (SB49) was a good step towards safeguarding parental rights, but there is still more work to do.

We, the UNDERSIGNED, are asking the NC Assembly to:

  1. Repeal 90-21.5(a) -This law gives minors the right to consent to their own healthcare for pregnancy, drug/alcohol treatment, AIDS, STDs, and “emotional disturbance.”
  2. Pass a law that requires an advisory committee to screen books to ensure that libraries are in compliance with NC obscenity laws and prohibits digital access to school library books online. This law should include the rights of parents to request removal of obscene books in their child’s school.
  3. Give parents the right to sue the school system, with monetary damages, if the school system violates the law.
