The Maryland General Assembly is well past the halfway point in this legislative session, yet the priorities emerging from the Maryland House of Delegates seem increasingly misaligned with the needs of Marylanders.
 
While energy costs are soaring, our state faces an enormous budget deficit and looming tax hikes. Marylanders are leaving in search of more affordable living, and our schools are struggling amidst a severe teacher shortage that is compromising our children’s education.
 
Despite these challenges, the legislature has prioritized policies that affect our children’s learning environments. Specifically, mandated gender ideology and sexuality educational standards in HB161 with no parent opt-out.
 
 At a time when Maryland is burdened by high taxes, an expensive cost of living, and underperforming schools, it is difficult to understand why the legislature would make it a priority for children to receive sexuality education as early as kindergarten.
