This important legislation, reintroduced by Senator Dan Laughlin, will provide hunters like myself with more opportunities to engage in wildlife management and conservation efforts by expanding hunting opportunities for deer and other species in the Commonwealth.

SB67 would allow the Pennsylvania Game Commission to establish hunting seasons that include Sundays. By adding an additional day of hunting each week, this bill would offer more time for hunters to manage wildlife populations effectively, including controlling deer numbers. The bill has already garnered broad support from sportsmen’s groups, the Pennsylvania Game Commission, and the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, all of which understand the importance of providing hunters with more time in the field to do their vital work.

As you may know, hunting plays a crucial role in managing Pennsylvania’s wildlife. With the ability to spend more days in the field, hunters can help ensure that deer populations are properly controlled, which reduces the risks of overpopulation, such as vehicle collisions, crop damage, and the spread of chronic wasting disease (CWD). Additionally, one of the top reasons hunters stop hunting is the lack of time. By repealing the Sunday hunting ban, this bill would help keep hunters engaged and active in the sport, benefiting wildlife conservation efforts in the long run.
