This bill is a slap in the face to hardworking farmers in our state. It's a betrayal of our values, our health, and our sovereignty. We cannot allow billion-dollar foreign corporations to dictate our laws and trample over our farmer's rights.
North Dakota already gives manufacturers reasonable defenses; HB 1318 goes a too far—total absolution, even for chemicals that maim or sterilize. When a pesticide manufacturer is immune, the seller and the farmer are next. HB 1318 takes away important protections from sellers—both the innocent seller doctrine and indemnification for the seller are wiped out—shifting the costs from the manufacturer onto their back.
