I am writing to urge you to support the Stop the Abortion Pill Drug Cartel Act. Despite SB20, which bans the direct mail of abortion drugs, North Carolina women are still at risk from illegal, unregulated abortion pills shipped into the state. These pills, often from rogue websites and foreign suppliers, are not FDA-approved and bypass essential medical safeguards like informed consent and ultrasounds.
Women who take these pills without proper medical supervision face serious risks, including hemorrhaging, infection, and even death. Some websites even encourage DIY abortions, leaving women to handle life-threatening complications alone.
The Stop the Abortion Pill Drug Cartel Act is critical to addressing this issue. It increases penalties for illegal pill shipments, creates civil remedies for women harmed by them, and ensures pharmacies comply with state laws to stop the illegal flow of dangerous pills.
We must protect North Carolina women from unsafe, unregulated abortions. I strongly urge you to support this important, life-saving legislation.
