Urge Your Representatives to Support HB311

Dear [Your Elected Official],

As a concerned NH voter and supporter of much needed campaign finance reform, I respectfully urge you to vote OTP on HB311. This bill would work to level the playing field between labor unions and corporations, ensuring that they are both required to make political contributions indirectly using a separate fund. 
Corporations should be held to the same standards as labor unions when it comes to politics. This common sense piece of legislation would reflect the will of the US District Court as laid out in Kennedy v. Gardner (1999), where it indicated segregated funds could act as “a simple solution to this simple problem,” and that the solution was to be found in the legislature, “that it can easily and effectively amend the statute to reflect its actual (constitutional) intent”. 
HB 311 provides a straight line from the decision in Gardner to creation of a level and constitutional playing field between union and corporate spending if you wish to do so, which opportunity is before you today.  I urge you to do the right thing by supporting this bill.

Summary

Current law prohibits political contributions made by a labor union or group of labor unions, but does not prohibit political contributions made by a corporation or corporations. HB311 is an attempt to bring needed equity between these two entities, labor unions and corporations, that impact the political influence between and among them.  The bill accomplishes this goal by prohibiting both corporations and unions from making political contributions directly; rather that both labor unions and corporations make political contributions through a separate, segregated fund consisting only of voluntary contributions solicited from individuals, as further explained in the language of the bill, all of which is consistent with, essentially, the guidance offered by the court in Kennedy v.
