SB472 is on the Senate floor on Thursday. The bill is of major concern and I urge you to vote NO. It helps no student, it harms many students, and it is a massive intrusion into private education.
State laws around the country that exclude transgender students have increased suicide attempts and assault attempts against transgender students, though there is no evidence they pose a danger to other students. Again, this bill helps no student.
This bill also represents a major imposition of government control over private residential schools, colleges, and camps. Have the sponsors consulted these private entities about their views on the bill? One issue touched on in the House Education Administration Subcommittee was the possible cost to private entities for compliance. We need more information and certainty before moving forward with this risky bill that increases the size of government in the life of private education.
Thank you for considering my views.
