<p>SB1130/HB1051 is in the House K-12 Subcommittee on March 25 and in the Senate Education Committee on March 26. I urge you to vote YES on the bill.</p> <p>Book bans and restrictions have gone too far. Reports of sometimes hundreds of books being removed from school libraries are alarming. Authors and books seem to be more scrutinized based on demographic factors rather than literary merit. That is the wrong approach.</p> <p>Students and the general public need access to excellent books to encourage them to be life-long readers and learners. Teachers and librarians do a good job of providing those materials to the students and adults of our state. The law needs to restore to them the trust they deserve.  These bills strike that balance and preserve our First Amendment freedoms.</p> <p>Thank you for considering my views.</p>
