Urge Your Representatives to Oppose HB514

I am writing as a concerned voter to urge you to oppose HB514. This bill would allow private parties to sue the state for violations of election procedures committed in towns and cities, and would create a mechanism by which individual citizens could compel the Attorney General’s Office to investigate allegations of such violations. 
A large concern is the impact this legislation will have on our elections. This would make finding volunteers to fill vital election worker roles dramatically more difficult as the fear of lawsuits would be a huge deterrent. Most of our dedicated election officials fill these roles out of a powerful sense of civic duty, but how many would be willing to risk being dragged into lawsuits by members of the public who are untrained in election law? The election law manual for New Hampshire is a lengthy and dense document that the majority of the population does not know well enough to have the authority to sue for infractions.
Please leave the legal actions to the officials at the Attorney General's Office and vote ITL on HB514.
