Dark Skies Protect Birds at Night!

Artificial light at night affects the millions of birds that migrate through New York State during their migration. Birds rely on natural light cues for their migration, navigation, communication, and reproduction. Artificial light at night during migration seasons draws birds into unsafe areas, making them more susceptible to collisions with windows. More than one billion birds die from these collisions annually across the country, with up to a quarter million birds dying in NYC alone.

The Dark Skies Protection Act would add a new article to the environmental conservation law, which would better control light pollution in New York State and establish limits on the use of outdoor lighting. The Dark Skies Protection Act is a direct action to save native biodiversity and combat climate change, and it needs your support.

Urge your NYS Senator and Assemblymember to co-sponsor the FLACO Act to save wild birds!
