Tell CDC: Stop Killing Animals for Rabies Testing!

To the CDC Deputy Director for Program and Science
Each year, around 120,000 animals are killed and decapitated in the U.S. for rabies testing. Most are healthy with only 6% testing positive.
The rest die in fear, pain, and confusion.
Even loved animals like P’Nut the squirrel and Fred the raccoon have been seized and killed—before any confirmed threat—just to prove they were not sick.
Live rabies tests already exist. They use saliva, skin, or blood. They are used for people, but the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) refuses to allow them for dogs, cats, or wildlife.
This cruel policy is outdated and inexcusable. Innocent animals are suffering.
Veterinarians are being forced to decapitate animals they want to protect.
We demand the HHS immediately approve and adopt non-lethal rabies tests for animals.
Use science to stop the killings and save lives!
