I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to respectfully urge you to support Senate Bill 375, currently under consideration in the Georgia General Assembly. This vital bill aims to formally recognize and address Hinduphobia within the legal framework of our great state, extending the same protections already afforded to other religious and ethnic communities.
SB-375 introduces a clear and concise definition of Hinduphobia—“a set of antagonistic, destructive, and derogatory attitudes and behaviors towards Hinduism”—and mandates its inclusion in anti-discrimination enforcement and hate crime evaluations. This is not about religious favoritism. It is about equal protection under law for Hindu Americans, who have increasingly become targets of hate speech, academic misrepresentation, and even violent attacks, as documented in numerous human rights reports.
The need for SB-375 is urgent and undeniable:
American Hindus, including families in Georgia, are facing rising hostility—from distorted portrayals in textbooks to targeted acts of vandalism at temples.
Hinduphobia often gets dismissed or conflated with caste-based discourse or foreign policy debates. SB-375 corrects this by recognizing it as a distinct form of prejudice.
The First Amendment protections are explicitly preserved in the bill, ensuring that free speech and academic freedom remain intact.
As Mahatma Gandhi once emphasized, “Truth is God.” The Hindu dharma teaches us to approach all with compassion, knowledge, and integrity. Supporting this bill aligns with the American spirit of fairness and pluralism, and protects Georgia’s rich diversity.
Please consider standing with Georgia’s vibrant Hindu community by voting in favor of SB-375. We are confident that your leadership will help enshrine justice and dignity for all.
