Congress recently passed and the President signed into law a devastating budget reconciliation bill that will rip away health care and food access from tens of thousands of Nebraskans in order to fund tax breaks for billionaires and sweeping deportations of everyday working people that will separate families.

All five members of Nebraka’s delegation – Sen. Ricketts, Sen. Fischer, Rep. Flood, Rep. Bacon, and Rep. Smith – voted to advance the President’s destructive agenda, failing the people of this state and the country.

This bill contains over $1 trillion in cuts to programs that keep communities healthy and strong, while drastically increasing overall costs and the deficit through tax cuts for the extremely wealthy and corporations.

It will take away health care from Nebraskans by:

Slashing Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, resulting in nearly 10 million people losing health insurance coverage and costs going up for the rest.

Attacking Nebraska’s voter-approved Medicaid expansion – which provides more than 65,000 Nebraskans with life-saving health care coverage – by imposing unnecessary work requirements that put up to 40,000 Nebraskans at risk of losing their health care.

Ending Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) coverage for Nebraska children and families who are refugees, asylees, humanitarian parolees, and certain victims of domestic violence and trafficking.

But the fight continues. Nebraskans across the state will need to work together to ensure that our state leaders mitigate as much harm as possible caused by this sweeping piece of legislation.

Your voice is needed at the federal level too - tell our members of Congress to act NOW to ensure health coverage is affordable. Call or edit the email template to your members and tell them to:

Extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace’s enhanced Advance Premium Tax Credits (APTCs). The Marketplace provides health coverage to over 135,000 Nebraskans, and over 100,000 Nebraskans rely on APTCs to afford their care.

If Congress doesn’t extend the enhanced APTCs, many Nebraskans will see their health care costs skyrocket, and many will lose coverage because they can no longer afford it.

The Congressional Budget Office estimates that an average of 3.8 million will be uninsured each year if the credits expire. Between this and the deep cuts that have already been made to Medicaid and Marketplace, the amount of people who are uninsured will significantly increase, causing health care costs to rise for all of us.

For years, enhanced APTCs have made health care more affordable - Congress must extend them NOW before they expire at the end of the year.
