I am writing to urge you to oppose any tax or fee increases during the upcoming special legislative session.
The proposed billion-dollar cut amounts to less than 3% of the total state budget. With a budget that has grown far faster than wage growth, there is ample room to make responsible reductions without asking Colorado families to pay more.
Only three years ago, the state enjoyed a $3.6 billion surplus — money that rightfully belonged to taxpayers under TABOR.
TABOR exists to protect Coloradans from exactly this type of overreach, including any state tax changes on overtime or tips. Any attempt to circumvent those protections is not only wrong — it is illegal.
Fee-based revenue has skyrocketed nearly 3,400%, while population and inflation have grown just 196%. The problem is not revenue — it is spending.
Please stand with taxpayers and:
Protect TABOR in its entirety.
Reject all new taxes and fees.
Find budget savings without burdening working families.
I will be closely watching your actions on this issue, and I will remember your vote.
