Tell Congress and the White House: Reopen the Government!
Dear [Your Elected Official],

As a constituent, I am writing to urge you to work with your colleagues in Congress and the White House to quickly reopen the government and allow nonprofits to continue their vital work.

A government shutdown directly harms nonprofits across the country that partner with the federal government to deliver urgent, critical services in local communities to the American people. Nonprofits meet real needs in real time, in all our communities. They show up in times of great need, providing disaster relief, crisis support, and safety from danger. Nonprofits also help communities every day by providing childcare, support for seniors and veterans, job training, food and shelter.

During a shutdown, however, nonprofits cannot access the federal grant and contract funding they earned. Without reliable access to the funding needed to cover payroll and other expenses, these organizations may have no choice but to cut back on services, reduce staff, or even close their doors. As a result, a shutdown can disrupt critical services for the American people and add unexpected costs and delays, leading to fewer resources for other important community projects.

Nonprofits are already facing enormous financial and political challenges, as the Administration has sought to freeze federal funding, terminate contracts, and otherwise withhold grant funds. A shutdown further undermines their ability to serve, and the longer it lasts, the more severe the harm to people and communities.

Please work with your colleagues in Congress and the White House to reach a bipartisan agreement as quickly as possible to reopen the government and ensure local nonprofits can continue to serve their communities.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]
