Dear Committee Member,

<p>I am writing to urge you to oppose Senate Bill 26-004.</p> <p>SB 26-004 dramatically expands Colorado’s Red Flag law by allowing health care facilities, behavioral health treatment facilities, K-12 schools, and institutions of higher education to petition courts for extreme risk protection orders. This expansion invites institutional abuse and weakens fundamental due process protections.</p> <p>Large institutions are not neutral actors. They are incentivized to act defensively to reduce liability, not to protect constitutional rights. Granting them the authority to initiate firearm confiscation proceedings increases the risk that lawful citizens will lose their rights without meaningful notice, without an adversarial hearing, and without proper accountability.</p> <p>Colorado law should protect due process, not erode it. Senate Bill 26-004 moves the state in the wrong direction and sets a dangerous precedent that will be difficult to undo.</p> <p>I respectfully urge you to vote NO on SB 26-004 and to oppose any effort to advance this bill out of committee.</p> <p>Thank you for your time and consideration.</p>
