<p>I urge you to vote NO on HB1473 on Tuesday in the Children and Family Affairs Subcommittee. </p> <p>While I believe that public officials should be available to serve all of the public, there is no evidence that the Board of Professional Responsibility has disciplined an attorney for failing to officiate at a same-sex marriage. So there is no demonstrated need for the bill.</p> <p>Finally, the sponsor told WBIR that the bill merely clarifies the law. If that were true, a resolution would be a better tool for that. But if the bill does have an impact on areas covered by the Obergefell decision, it will result in costly litigation on a matter settled by the Supreme Court.</p> <p>Thank you for considering my views.</p>
