<p>DMV offices are one of the most consistent statewide points of contact between residents and government. People visit the DMV to renew a license, obtain an ID, or update their address. HB 1600 would allow voter registration at the DMV, meaning eligible voters can register while they are already confirming identity and residency through official documentation. This bill reduces barriers, supports efficient administration, and maintains the integrity of the registration process.</p> <p>HB 1600 would not replace local oversight or weaken election integrity. Instead, it would expand the number of secure, official, in-person registration access points, which is especially helpful for working adults, rural residents, and voters with disabilities who may not have easy access to clerk office hours or checklist sessions. It would also help keep the voter checklist more accurate as residents update their domicile information through their licenses and IDs, thus reducing spikes of registration changes on Election Day.</p> <p>Our elections are only as representative as the number of eligible people who can realistically access the process. DMV registration, paired with same-day registration, ensures the greatest number of qualified voters can take part in free and fair elections. I ask that you make any adjustments needed in the exact language of the bill to pass this much needed reform.</p>
