Pass Medicare Coverage for Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening
Mced blood draw
Dear [Your Elected Official],

I am writing to urge you to continue to prioritize the health and well-being of the more than 60 million Americans on Medicare by passing the Nancy Gardner Sewell Medicare Multi-Cancer Detection Screening Act (H.R. 842). The Senate's passage of the Act (S. 339) on January 30, 2026 is a historic moment, that if passed by the House, could save thousands of lives annually. Now it is up to you.

Every day, approximately 1,700 Americans die from cancer, totaling over 600,000 deaths annually. Early cancer detection saves lives, reduces treatment costs, and improves the quality of life for patients and their families. When detected early, the five-year survival rate for cancer is nearly 90%.

We are encouraged by ongoing clinical trials demonstrating the effectiveness of multi-cancer early detection (MCED) tests, which can detect multiple types of cancer at earlier, more treatable stages through a simple blood test.

As a member of the cystic fibrosis (CF) community, I am especially passionate about broadening access to life-saving healthcare tools for vulnerable populations. While CF is primarily known as a lung condition, it also increases the risk of cancer. Over 11% of CF-related deaths in 2024 were attributed to cancer. In addition to those with CF aged 65 and above, many individuals with CF under age 65 rely on Medicare through their Social Security Disability Insurance status (41.2%). Access to MCED screening is therefore critical to large portions of our community.

We appreciate your leadership in supporting this important legislation. We urge the House to act swiftly to pass H.R. 842 and ensure Medicare beneficiaries have access to these transformative early detection tests.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]
