<p>I urge you to oppose SB 948.</p> <p>This bill significantly expands California’s Firearm Safety Certificate requirements by mandating 4 hours of training and live-fire exercises beginning in 2028, and by creating new criminal penalties for individuals who bring lawfully owned firearms into the state but fail to comply with additional state mandates within 180 days.</p> <p>The Supreme Court has made clear that modern firearm restrictions must be grounded in the historical tradition of the Founding era. Expanding training mandates and creating new crimes for ordinary gun owners does nothing to improve community safety and is unlikely to survive a constitutional challenge.</p> <p>SB 948 does not focus on violent criminals. It places additional burdens on responsible gun owners who are already complying with some of the strictest laws in the country.</p> <p>Please vote NO on SB 948.</p> <p> </p>
