<p>I urge you to vote NO on HB1473 on February 19 on the House floor. </p> <p>While I believe that public officials should be available to serve all of the public, there is no evidence that the Board of Judicial Conduct has disciplined any Tennessee judge for failing to officiate at a same-sex marriage. So there is no demonstrated need for the bill.</p> <p>Finally, the sponsor told WBIR that the portion of the bill about the private sector merely clarifies the law. If that were true, a resolution or Attorney General's opinion would be a better tool for that. But if the bill does have an impact on areas covered by the Obergefell decision, it will result in costly litigation on a matter settled by the Supreme Court.</p> <p>Please, press the sponsor to be clear about what is and is not covered by the bill. You will see that this is dangerous path for our state.</p> <p>Thank you for considering my views.</p>
