<p>I urge you to vote NO on House Bill 315 on Tuesday in the Children and Family Affairs Subcommittee. Covenant marriage is not popular in Arizona, Louisiana, and Arkansas. Only 1 to 3 percent of newly married couples choose the option.</p> <p>I also worry that it will make it more difficult for women in particular to leave abusive relationships. We need to get more data from the states that have implemented it. This issue means we should not rush into this proposal.</p> <p>Finally, the sponsor said to the Knoxville News Sentinel and The Tennessean in 2025 that his goal is to revisit the 2015 Obergefell decision. We should not pass laws for the purpose of advancing costly, divisive litigation.</p> <p>Thank you for considering my views.</p>
