The Lights Out Pledge

By taking the Lights Out Pledge, I am joining NYC Bird Alliance and fellow New Yorkers in helping make our city safer for migrating birds.

I pledge to:

  • Turn off unnecessary lights between 11pm and 6am during peak migration (March – May; August – November) whenever possible.
  • Encourage my building, workplace, or community to participate in #LightsOutNYC.
  • Help spread awareness about simple actions New Yorkers can take to support migratory birds.

Together, we can reduce unnecessary nighttime lighting and help guide millions of birds safely through New York City during migration season.

<h1 style="text-align: center;">Help Make NYC Safer for Migrating Birds</h1> <p style="text-align: justify;">Each spring and fall, millions of birds migrate through New York City under the cover of night. But the artificial light from buildings can confuse and disorient these birds, pulling them off course into the City&rsquo;s dangerous maze of glass &ndash; putting them at risk of deadly collisions with buildings. Collisions kill nearly 250,000 birds in New York City each year, and over one billion across the country.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Join NYC Bird Alliance and fellow New Yorkers in making the City safer for migrating birds by taking our Lights Out Pledge.
