The House recently passed its version of the Farm Bill, and unfortunately, it did nothing to restore food assistance to the 10,000 Nebraskans who have already lost their food assistance since H.R.1 (or the”One Big Beautiful Bill Act”) passed. H.R.1 made unprecedented changes to SNAP - changing how SNAP is funded, cutting $187 billion and stripping away eligibility from many.

The Senate is starting to write their version of the Farm Bill, with the hope that a Farm Bill will ultimately reach the President’s desk by the end of July.

Instead of ignoring these harmful changes that are now reality for Nebraskans, we need a Farm Bill that:

Restores eligibility for our lawfully present refugee and asylee neighbors who still need food support

Ends the new and harmful work requirements for those experiencing homelessness, veterans and young people aging out of foster care added in H.R.1

Delays or ends new, harmful SNAP costs that states now have to pay or risk being forced to end SNAP; and

Includes the RESTORE Act which would end Nebraska’s lifetime ban for people with certain drug related felony convictions.

We need a Farm Bill that matches Nebraska’s values – a Farm Bill that gets food to the people who need it most and restores the loss in SNAP assistance for thousands of Nebraskans recently cut off. Call or edit the email template to the right and tell our Nebraska senators to not advance any version of the Farm Bill that doesn’t strengthen SNAP!
