This past Tuesday (3/31), the Senate Election Law Committee held a public hearing on HB 1601, which would require the Secretary of State to create a voter education program that includes information on recent changes to voting laws.

Voting laws in New Hampshire have changed a lot over the past few years—and voters who can't keep up are paying the price. Confusion due to these shifting requirements lead to longer lines, mistakes, and ultimately, eligible voters being turned away from the polls.

We appreciate the work the Secretary of State currently does to educate voters across New Hampshire. HB 1601 is a commonsense bill that would build on those efforts by allocating $50,000 in Help America Vote Act (HAVA) funds to expand voter education and address the demonstrated gaps—because even one eligible voter being turned away should raise serious concern.
