THE ISSUE
Residents in Back River and surrounding waterways are already experiencing the return of heavy midge activity.
If action is not taken immediately, our communities will once again face conditions that make it difficult to use our homes, yards, and public spaces.
This is no longer just a nuisance. It is affecting daily life, outdoor use, and overall quality of life for residents across our communities.
Midges are part of the natural ecosystem. However, the scale and intensity of what we are experiencing is not normal and points to an environmental imbalance that requires active management.
The window for effective treatment is right now, while midges are still in the larvae stage. Delays will only allow the problem to escalate and spread further into surrounding communities.
Residents are also being asked to accept a legal disclaimer before reporting midge activity through the County’s system. This creates a barrier to reporting and raises serious concerns about transparency and accountability.
Residents should not have to accept legal terms just to report environmental conditions in their own neighborhoods.
🚨 WE ARE CALLING FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION 🚨
* Secure and maintain full funding for the Nuisance Midge Control Program
* Begin and sustain treatment immediately during the larvae stage
* Provide clear, consistent communication to residents on timing, methods, and expectations
* Remove or revise the midge reporting disclaimer so residents are not required to waive rights or accept legal risk
* Establish a clear point of contact for community questions, concerns, and updates
Residents deserve transparency, accountability, and real action.
