I am writing to urge you to vote in favor of the Joint Resolutions of Disapproval to block the Administration’s proposed arms sales to Israel, including $151.8 million in 1,000-pound bombs and $295 million in bulldozers.
These transfers raise serious concerns under US law, including the Foreign Assistance Act and the Arms Export Control Act, which require that US security assistance uphold human rights and not implicate the United States in violations of international law.
The 1,000-pound bombs included in this sale are high-impact munitions with wide-area effects that pose a significant risk to civilians when used in populated areas. Similar weapons were used in strikes that killed civilians and damaged residential buildings, medical facilities, and humanitarian sites in Gaza and, more recently, Beirut.
Bulldozers like those included in this sale are routinely used to demolish Palestinian homes, uproot agricultural land, and expand settlement infrastructure in the West Bank, and have also recently been deployed in southern Lebanon. These actions contribute directly to displacement and instability and are fundamentally at odds with longstanding US policy supporting a negotiated two-state solution. They also risk further escalating violence in Lebanon at a moment when fragile ceasefire negotiations with Iran remain unresolved and regional dynamics are highly volatile.
Congress has both the authority and the responsibility to ensure that US arms sales align with our laws and values. I urge you to support these Joint Resolutions of Disapproval.
Thank you for your leadership and consideration of this critical issue.
