Dear [Your Elected Official],

I am writing as a New Hampshire voter to respectfully urge you to pass HB 1601.

This would require the Secretary of State to create a voter education program on recent changes to New Hampshire’s election laws. As you are well aware, these laws have changed significantly in recent years, and confusion is already impacting voters—leading to longer lines, mistakes, and at least 319 eligible voters being turned away since HB 1569 took effect on November 11, 2024 (NHCVR). Strengthening voter education by reinvesting in it at a time like this is essential to ensure everyone can successfully participate.

While I appreciate the work the Secretary of State’s office currently does, the pace and volume of recent changes make it clear that scaled outreach is needed. HB 1601 offers a potential solution by allocating $50,000 in existing federal HAVA funds—just a small fraction of the roughly $13 million still available—to modernize and expand voter education efforts. Even basic outreach methods, like statewide mailers, have been described as costly, underscoring the need for a more sustainable approach.

As the Committee prepares to make its recommendation, I urge you to vote ought to pass on HB 1601. Clear, accessible voter education benefits voters, election officials, and the integrity of our elections.

Thank you for your service to the people of New Hampshire.
