Voting laws in New Hampshire have changed significantly in recent years and voters who can't keep up are paying the price. Confusion over shifting requirements leads to longer lines, mistakes, and eligible voters turned away at the polls.

HB 1601 would require the Secretary of State to create a voter education program focused on recent changes to voting law. We appreciate the work the Secretary of State already does to keep voters informed. This bill builds on those efforts by allocating $50,000 in existing Help America Vote Act funds, at no cost to the state budget, to close demonstrated gaps in voter outreach.

Even one eligible voter turned away should raise serious concern. Urge the Senate Election Law Committee to pass HB 1601 and invest in the voter education Granite Staters need to successfully cast their ballots.
