Housing in New Jersey has become too unaffordable because there are just not enough homes to rent or buy that meet people’s needs and budgets. Converting our vacant and underutilized retail and office spaces into housing can help us solve our housing crisis, but we need our legislators to take action!

Bill S1766/A3535 would facilitate the redevelopment of empty and underused spaces–also known as “stranded assets”--into vibrant, functional, mixed-use communities where New Jersey residents can live, work, and shop. Converting stranded assets into community assets can help us meet our state’s housing demand and address affordability, but right now the local approval process for these types of redevelopment projects is lengthy, costly, and unpredictable.

S1766/A3535 would establish project eligibility guidelines, streamline review processes, and give property owners the opportunity to redevelop blighted properties. Overall, these bills will help address our housing supply shortage and revitalize our communities.

Send a message to your legislators today and ask them to support turning our “stranded assets” into community assets!

As New Jerseyans across all parts of the state struggle to find an affordable home in a safe, vibrant neighborhood, we need our elected leaders to support a wide range of strategies to help build more homes. S1766/A3535 is a commonsense solution to help us achieve our housing goals.
