The midwifery model of care is essential for solving our maternal health crisis. Massachusetts has begun to make strides in expanding access to midwives and to freestanding birth centers offering midwifery care, but sustainability is essential.
I strongly support S.3045/H.5016, “An Act promoting and enhancing the sustainability of birth centers and the midwifery workforce," filed by Senator Joan Lovely, Representative Manny Cruz, and Representative Lindsay Sabadosa. As your constituent, I urge you to advocate to bring S.3045/H.5016 to the floor before the end of the legislative session.
Without sustainable reimbursement and staffing, birth centers and midwifery practice will close. Midwives will leave the workforce.
Our communities deserve access to high quality community-based maternal care and birth options. Midwives save lives.
