I am writing to ask you to support House Bill H7894 and Senate Bill S3289, which will ensure that congressionally chartered youth development organizations including Scouting America are able to inform students each year about their programs.
There congressionally chartered youth development organizations in this bill are Girl Scouts of the USA, Scouting America, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Clubs. These outstanding organizations provide amazing after-school youth development programs to Rhode Island families.
In many school districts today, administrators feel pressure to either say yes to every outside group or no to all. To avoid controversy or added workload, many schools choose “no” across the board — even to longstanding, reputable organizations like Scouting. These bills provide a clear, limited framework for access to promote vetted and proven after-school youth development programs.
After-school engagement in these youth development programs is proven to improve student behavior and educational outcomes in school. The more youth and families involved in these organizations the better!
This legislation will result in more children and families involved in great after-school youth development programs—a win for our state! This comes at zero cost to the state.
Please support House Bill 7894 and Senate Bill 3289 and improve support for children and families!
