Dear Congress,
I respectfully urge you to support a two-year delay in the proposed SNAP administrative cost shift to states.
For many hardworking Texans, SNAP serves as a temporary bridge during difficult seasons of life. Whether facing a job loss, a medical emergency, rising costs, or an unexpected financial setback, SNAP helps families put food on the table while they continue working, caring for their loved ones, and striving toward greater self-sufficiency.
SNAP is not only an investment in families it is an investment in local communities. SNAP benefits support grocery stores, farmers, food producers, and small businesses, while helping strengthen local economies throughout Texas.
Without additional time to prepare for the cost shift, states may face difficult decisions that could unintentionally create barriers to food assistance for eligible families. A two-year delay would provide states with the time needed to strengthen program operations, improve administrative accuracy, and ensure continued access to food assistance for those who need it most.
A delay would help:
* Protect access to food assistance for hardworking families, children, seniors, and veterans.
* Allow states to responsibly prepare for implementation.
* Reduce the risk of unintended disruptions to families and local economies.
* Support long-term program effectiveness and stability.
At a time when many Texans are working hard to make ends meet, maintaining reliable access to food assistance is more important than ever. SNAP helps families remain stable, stay in the workforce, and continue contributing to their communities while navigating temporary hardships.
I respectfully ask for your support in delaying the SNAP cost shift for two years and ensuring that families continue to have access to this critical bridge to stability.
Thank you for your service and consideration.
Sincerely,
Concerned Texan
