Last night Russia bombed the 11th century Pechersk Monastery in Kyiv. The attack set fire to one of the most sacred Christian sites in Ukraine and showed the world what Moscow’s so-called defense of faith really means.

Russia claims to defend Christianity, but its war has burned churches, seized houses of worship, persecuted and executed clergy, and pressured religious communities in occupied Ukraine to submit to Moscow-controlled religious authority. This is not only hypocrisy. It is forced Russification through the destruction of religious freedom.

The Countering Russia’s War on Faith Act is a targeted, bipartisan accountability bill that would require the U.S. government to document Russia’s persecution of religious communities in Ukraine and impose sanctions on those responsible. By exposing perpetrators and creating consequences, Congress can help deter Russia from continuing to use religious destruction as a weapon of war.

Contact your Members of Congress today and urge them to co-sponsor H.R. 8433 / S. 4379, the Countering Russia’s War on Faith Act. Tell them Russia must not be allowed to bomb sacred Christian sites, persecute believers, and force Ukrainian faith communities into submission to Moscow.
