I urge you to vote NO on the National Defense Authorization Act. The bill contains provisions that would undermine congressional oversight over military assistance to Israel.

The NDAA includes language that would embed US military assistance to Israel in thousands of separate defense contracts and co-production agreements instead of keeping it in a transparent, congressionally-appropriated aid package. Once military assistance is scattered across countless contracts, Congress loses the ability to condition it or hold it accountable. This change would lock in permanent military entanglement with Israel outside of any meaningful congressional oversight.

Leadership is also planning to attach the SAVE America Act–legislation that would require onerous proof of citizenship to register to vote, effectively ending mail and online voter registration. This would block untold numbers of eligible Americans from voting.

Voting rights protections and military spending decisions deserve to be considered carefully and separately, not to be bundled together in must-pass legislation. I urge you to vote NO on the NDAA.

Summary

To make matters worse, Republican leaders plan to attach the SAVE America Act to the NDAA. This is the bill – pushed by President Trump – that requires onerous proof of citizenship to register to vote, effectively blocking untold numbers of Americans from voting. Congress should not be jamming voting restrictions into a defense bill. And it should not be locking in permanent military entanglement with Israel outside of congressional oversight.
