Right now, thousands of human service workers across Massachusetts do the same work as state employees, supporting people with disabilities, older adults and families in crisis, but they are paid meaningfully less, even though their contracts come from state agencies.

IF YOU WORK IN HUMAN SERVICES: In my own role as a [JOB TITLE], I [OPTIONAL: ONE SENTENCE ABOUT YOUR DAY-TO-DAY WORK OR A SPECIFIC CHALLENGE TIED TO PAY/STAFFING]. This amendment would require the state to raise reimbursement rates to our employers, with that money required to go directly into paychecks. It closes the pay gap completely by 2029.

This is a workforce of nearly 150,000 people — 78% women, more diverse than the state workforce overall, and one in six human services workers is earning below 200% of the federal poverty line, even doing this essential work.
