Please cosponsor and advocate for Amendment #359 Midwife Reimbursement Parity sponsored by Senator Joan Lovely in the Economic Development Bill.
As your constituent, I am concerned about our ongoing maternal health crisis and maternity care closures that continue to occur all across the state. By ensuring equitable reimbursement from MassHealth, certified professional midwives will be able to serve low income families. This expands access to care and improves maternal health outcomes.
Greater utilization of midwifery also lowers health care costs by reducing the rate of C-sections and other expensive medical interventions. We don't need to under-reimburse midwives to gain the cost savings. If midwives are not reimbursed sustainably, more birth centers and midwifery practices will close.
