On July 20, the U.S. Department of Justice announced it will no longer rely on its long-standing guidance for enforcing Olmstead and the ADA's integration mandate, the guidance that has helped people with intellectual and developmental disabilities live, work, and belong in their communities for 15 years.

The law has not changed. Olmstead and the ADA are still the law of the land. But this action tells states that the federal government does not intend to enforce these rights the way it has for decades. In Illinois, where thousands of people are still waiting for community services, that matters.

Congress needs to hear directly from the people these decisions affect. Take two minutes to send a letter to your members of Congress and share what community living means for your family. Edit the letter with your personal story.
