Dear Sports Organization,

Sophie Cunningham publicly shared her baptism and Christian faith before coming under criticism after speaking out in defense of girls’ sports. She later said there are more faith-driven athletes in the WNBA than many people realize, but many choose to remain silent because, as she put it, “sometimes they want to hush you.” Faith-driven athletes should never feel pressured to hide their sincerely held beliefs or convictions to participate fully in professional sports. When athletes believe they must stay silent about their faith or convictions to avoid criticism or protect their careers, it creates the perception that Christian faith is treated differently. Sports organizations should affirm that athletes are free to live and express their faith as part of the diversity that exists throughout the game.

We represent millions of faith-driven consumers who support professional sports and believe athletes should be free to live and speak according to their faith without fear of censorship, retaliation, or pressure to remain silent. We are not asking for special treatment—only equal respect. When faith is pushed aside, it becomes invisible. But when we stand together, it becomes a voice that cannot be ignored.
