Please vote NO on the Protecting Renters Ordinance (PRO) when it reaches the Council this fall. I live in your ward, and I don't think this ordinance does what it promises.
New registration fees, eviction restrictions, and rehab penalties raise the cost of owning rental property in Chicago. Landlords don't just absorb costs like that — they raise rents, sell buildings, or exit the rental market altogether. Renters end up paying the price either way.
It's also a one-size-fits-all rule: a family renting out a two-flat faces the same requirements as a large corporate landlord. For a lot of Black and Latino families, that two-flat is how they've built wealth and passed property down. PRO's new costs put that at risk.
I'd appreciate your NO vote on this.
